Introducing Opticycle, Australia's only end to end recycling solution for used contact lens cases and eyeglasses. Opticycle is committed to advancing environmental sustainability and tackling the recycling difficulties related to products from the opticle industry.
With a keen focus on preserving the planet, Opticycle streamlines the recycling process for contact lens cases, which often pose difficulties for conventional recycling systems due to their size and composite material structure. Opticycle has also developed a process to recycle used eyeglasses and lenses.
Opticycle encourages individuals across Australia to actively participate in waste reduction and contribute to a greener and more eco-conscious future.
Opticycle consists of a team of dedicated industry professionals with extensive experience in waste and recycling, logistics, training and education, stakeholder engagement and sustainability reporting.
We work with you to educate staff, using educational material tailored to your programs. We also focus on continued learning and education so that staff & consumers remain aware of and keep up to date with program changes.
Absolute transparency is what we are all about. We only offer services where viable end markets exist for recovered materials, and our detailed service reporting provides real time access to data and information that can be used to support ESG and CSR reporting.
Our Disposable Contact Lenses Case Recycling Program collects and recycles contact lens cases that would normally go to landfill. Each box or bag received at our processing facility is checked in and weighed allowing us to track and report on performance across our network of participating organisations.
Opticycle works with optometrists and retailers to provide a solution to collect unwanted eyeglasses and lenses. Opticycle can work with you to design a program to collect unwanted stock from your organisation.
We are dedicated to providing an exclusive and comprehensive recycling solution for the optical industry.

Fit for purpose receptacles are provided to optometrists for both ‘back of house’ waste and ‘front of house’ consumer drop off. Our 1800 number Helpdesk manages all bookings and day to day support needs of stores.
Header card attached to top of receptacle provides the branding real estate for optometrists. This header card can be easily removed, rebranded and replaced to support specific campaigns, co-branding opportunities with manufacturers and other seasonal promotions.
Collection of full boxes and replenishment of stock to optometrists are matched to individual store volumes. Our recycling facility in Silverwater NSW conducts all recycling activity to produce the highest grade recovered materials that are then used as valuable feedstock for new product manufacturing.
Opticycle provides our customers with full transparency for all products collected by individual locations. Our reporting includes detailed volume and recovery data that can be used to support ESG and CSR reporting.

Opticycle is Australia’s first and only end to end recycling program for household and commercial contact lens cases and eyewear waste.
Opticycle is a voluntary recycling program, funded by participating optometrists, industry sponsors and government organisations.
Opticycle is a complete end-to-end solution for the recycling of disposable contact lens cases, eyeglasses & lenses. Opticycle manages all of the collection, logistics and processing of contact lens cases and eyewear waste, providing full transparency and traceability. Using specialised recycling technology, located right here in Australia, Opticycle ensures that the waste materials collected for recycling are actually recycled.
Collected packaging is transported to our processing facility located in Sydney. Each box or bag received at our processing facility is checked in and weighed allowing us to track and report on performance across our network of public drop off locations and participating organisations. Once weights have been recorded, the contents of full boxes/bags are emptied onto a sorting table for a visual quality control check. Any contamination, or non-accepted packaging is removed and managed accordingly (recycled where possible). The cases are broken down into fine particles to delaminate the materials. This then goes through our proprietary separation process, which involves air density & electrostatic separation, to separate the plastic & aluminium. Once separated the aluminium and plastic material is kept in bulk bags until enough material is ready to be sent to end-users.
When it comes to items that Australians wished they could recycle, blister packs, including those from contact lens, are top the list. However, as blister type packs are made of different materials, including plastic and aluminium, they cannot be recycled through kerbside recycling. This means that every year, hundreds of millions of contact lens cases are either sent to landfill or incorrectly placed into kerbside recycling, contaminating other materials streams. For contact lens cases to be recycled, they first need to be collected in sufficient volumes to warrant the use of specialised recycling technology. Opticycle provides the mechanism to achieve this, making the wish to recycle contact lens cases a reality.
